Sanato

Sanato is a legendary, historic pension located on the top of Antałówka hill in Zakopane, which after years of neglect is undergoing a comprehensive revitalization. Built 110 years ago to a design by Eugeniusz Wesołowski, it was one of the most technologically advanced buildings in Europe at the time, featuring central heating, elevators, and a brick facade that stood out among the wooden architecture of Zakopane. Originally intended as a sanatorium, local authorities denied permission, so it operated as an exclusive guesthouse attracting artists and celebrities, including Kornel Makuszyński. In 1929, it was converted into a tuberculosis sanatorium for postal workers and functioned as a medical facility until the 1980s. After its closure, it fell into ruin, earning the nickname of Poland's Silent Hill. Now, after being acquired by CORE Development, restoration is underway to restore its former glory and transform it into a five-star hotel with approximately 200 rooms. The investment, worth 450 million PLN, also includes the development of Antałówka hill. New buildings will be integrated into the slope, and the entire revitalization is expected to attract tourists who appreciate luxury and history. Today, Sanato is a place that combines a rich past with a modern vision for the future.
