Bazylika świętego Floriana Kraków

The Basilica of Saint Florian is a historic church in Kraków, located at Warszawska Street 1b, right next to Matejko Square and close to Kraków Główny railway station, in the area of the former Kleparz district. The first church on this site was built in the 12th century, while the current Baroque structure dates from 1657–1684, erected after the destruction during the Swedish invasion. Inside, visitors can see the painting of Saint Florian in the main altar from 1686, the late Gothic altar of Saint John the Baptist from the early 16th century, and the relics of the patron saint of firefighters. There is also the Chapel of Saint John Cantius with a painting by Tadeusz Kuntze-Konicz and a canonization banner from 1767. The treasury holds a Gothic reliquary in the shape of a tower, which according to tradition was donated to the church after the Battle of Grunwald. The church is associated with Saint John Paul II, who served here as a vicar from 1949 to 1951; commemorative plaques mark his presence. In 1999, the church was elevated to the rank of a minor basilica. The site is open to visitors all year round, and admission is free. It is an important place for both the faithful and enthusiasts of history and sacred art.
