Camaldolese Monastery in Bielany, Kraków

The Camaldolese Monastery in Bielany is a historic monastic complex located in the western part of Kraków, on Srebrna Góra (Silver Mountain), surrounded by the Wolski Forest. It was founded in 1604 by Mikołaj Wolski, and the church and hermitage were built between 1609 and 1630 according to the design of Andrea Spezza. The name of the Bielany district comes from the white habits worn by the monks. The complex includes the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, two courtyards, hermitages, a library with a valuable collection of over 11,000 volumes, and the Foresteria. The church interior features stuccowork by Falconi, paintings by Stachowicz and Dolabella, as well as a 17th-century image of the Camaldolese Lady. The Camaldolese monks lead an austere, eremitic life, with strict silence and seclusion. The site is open to visitors during designated hours, with free admission. It is a place of unique atmosphere, attracting both pilgrims and enthusiasts of architecture and history.
