Camaldolese Monastery on Bielany in Kraków

The Camaldolese Monastery on Bielany is a historic monastery complex located in the western part of Kraków, on Srebrna Góra (Silver Mountain), surrounded by the Wolski Forest. It was founded in 1604 by Mikołaj Wolski, with the church and hermitage built between 1609 and 1630 to a design by Andrea Spezza. It is one of two active Camaldolese monasteries in Poland, and the name of the Bielany district comes from the monks' white habits. The complex includes the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, two courtyards, hermitages, and a library with a valuable collection of over 11,000 volumes. The church interior features stuccowork by Falconi, paintings by Stachowicz and Dolabella, and a 17th-century image of the Camaldolese Lady. The Camaldolese monks lead a strict, eremitic lifestyle, and visiting is possible at designated times. The site attracts both history and art enthusiasts as well as those seeking peace and contemplation. The monastery is open to visitors, and admission is free.
