Durbaszka

Durbaszka is a modest mountain peak, 934 meters above sea level, situated in the main ridge of the Little Pieniny range, on the Polish-Slovak border, near the village of Jaworki in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The summit lies exactly on the state border, and its southern, Slovakian slopes are covered with forest, where limestone rock formations known as Kościelne Skały can be found. On the Polish side, vast mountain meadows descend towards the Grajcarek valley, where sheep still graze today. From the treeless parts of the ridge, there are extensive views of the Tatra Mountains, the Radziejowa Range, and the Pieniny proper. Historically, these lands were cultivated by the Lemko people, and after their resettlement, a production cooperative was established here. Nowadays, the slopes host the modernized Durbaszka shelter, which also serves as a GOPR rescue point. The site is open year-round and free of charge, with a hiking trail passing nearby, leading from the Pieniny Road through Szafranówka, Łaźne Skały, Cyrhle, Wysoki Wierch, Durbaszka, Wysoka, Wierchliczka, and the Rozdziele Pass to Gromadzka Pass. It is an excellent destination for hiking trips for families and groups, offering close contact with nature and beautiful panoramas.
