The Eagles' Nests Trail is a scenic 163.9 km route running from Kraków to Częstochowa through the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. The trail connects medieval castles and fortresses built in the 14th century by King Casimir the Great, now mostly in ruins. Perched on limestone hills, they resemble eagles' nests, giving the trail its name. Key highlights include the castle in Olsztyn (20 minutes from Częstochowa) with its impressive tower and surviving walls, Ogrodzieniec Castle in Podzamcze featuring a well-marked tour route, a tower with panoramic views, and underground chambers, as well as Mirów Castle, one of the oldest on the trail. Nature lovers will enjoy the Sokole Góry Nature Reserve with limestone hills, caves, and educational paths. The area is rich in fossils, especially ammonites, making it a great destination for young paleontologists. The trail is suitable for families with children, though some castles have steep paths. Nearby attractions include playgrounds, amusement parks, restaurants, and souvenir shops. It is an ideal place for active outdoor recreation.
