Srebrna Góra Fortress

Srebrna Góra Fortress is one of the largest mountain fortresses in Europe, located on the Srebrna Pass in the Sudetes, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Built between 1765 and 1777 by order of King Frederick the Great of Prussia, it was intended to protect Silesia from Austria. The complex covers over 100 hectares and consists of the main fort Donjon, the Ostrog fort, the Horn fort, and several bastions. The Donjon comprises four round bastions, each 60 m in diameter and 30 m high, connected by curtain walls, with walls up to 12 m thick. The fortress was never captured – it was tested only once during the Napoleonic Wars, but the fighting was halted by the Peace of Tilsit. Later it served as a prison and training ground. Today it is open for guided tours. On-site facilities include a café, restaurant, and free parking. The walk from the parking lot to the top takes 15–30 minutes. It is open seasonally, Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00. This is an excellent destination for history enthusiasts, families, and school groups.
