The Sowie Mountains are a picturesque range in the Central Sudetes, located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, about 60 km southwest of Wrocław. They are the oldest part of the Sudetes, built mainly of Precambrian gneisses, with a geological history dating back around 480 million years. The highest peak is Wielka Sowa (1015 m above sea level), offering beautiful views. The range boasts numerous attractions, including mysterious underground adits of the Riese complex in Walim and Głuszyca, as well as the impressive Srebrna Góra Fortress, the largest mountain fortress in Europe. Visitors can enjoy a dense network of hiking and cycling trails, observation towers, scenic clearings, and rock formations. The Sowie Mountains Landscape Park covers the heart of the range, and there are several mountain huts in the area, making it an ideal destination for weekend trips. With a variety of attractions, from history to nature, the Sowie Mountains appeal to families and groups of friends alike.
