Kamienica Swiechowiczowska in Kraków

Kamienica Swiechowiczowska is a historic tenement house located in Kraków, in the Old Town district, at 23 Grodzka Street. It was erected in the mid-14th century, and its first owner was Gyslone of Opava. In the 15th century, it underwent a reconstruction, and in 1653 the name Kamienica Swiechowiczowska appeared in sources for the first time, derived from the surname of the then owner. Between 1768 and 1770, the house was rebuilt on the commission of the Lewicki family. The tenement burned down during the great fire of Kraków in 1850, but it was rebuilt as early as 1851. Another reconstruction took place at the beginning of the 20th century, and since 1910 the building has been municipal property. In 1966, the tenement was entered into the register of monuments. The building is also listed in the municipal monument inventory and is an interesting example of urban architecture with a centuries-long history.
