Uranium Mine Underground Tourist Route

An underground tourist route in a former uranium mine in Kletno, on the northern slope of Żmijowiec in the Śnieżnik Massif. The mine operated from 1948 to 1953, partly reusing medieval adits where iron, silver, and copper had been extracted in the past. In total, the mine comprised 20 adits and 3 shafts, with all workings exceeding 37 km in length; about 20 tonnes of uranium were extracted. The visited adit No. 18 lies by the road connecting Kletno with Sienna and consists of a separate system of workings in the north-eastern, highest part of the mine. Visitors can see attractively illuminated exposures of local minerals, including fluorite, amethyst, and quartz. The accessible corridors are about 400 m long, 1.5–2 m wide, and from 1.7 to over 2 m high. The adit is completely safe in terms of radiation. Open daily from 9:00 to 17:00, guided tours last about 40–45 minutes. Free parking for vehicles up to 5 tonnes and a place for a campfire are available. Tickets: regular 15 PLN, reduced 12 PLN; discounts for families with the Large Family Card and a special price for children from orphanages are offered. It is an interesting attraction for families, school groups, and anyone interested in mining history.
