Underground Tourist Route St. John Mine in Krobica

The Underground Tourist Route St. John Mine in Krobica is the only former mining site open to tourists in the Izera Mountains, located in the village of Krobica near Mirsk in Lower Silesia. The tour leads through historic corridors of a former tin and cobalt mine, with the oldest sections dating back about 450 years. Descending several dozen meters underground, visitors can see traces of manual extraction and raw excavations, which convey the atmosphere of the miners' daily work. The route also includes an exhibition hall, and guided tours by qualified staff bring to life the history of mining, alchemy, and legends of dwarfs. The site combines education with adventure, offering workshops and games, making it attractive for families, school groups, and organized tours. In 2026, the mine celebrates the 450th anniversary of its launch, which will be marked during the European Heritage Days. The facility is open seasonally: from May to October daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and from November to April from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (closed on November 1). A visit lasts from 50 to 90 minutes depending on the form. On-site amenities include toilets, a café, and a gift shop.
