📍 Zittau, DE🕒 4+ hours

The Zittau Mountains (Zittauer Gebirge) are a small but very scenic mountain range in southeastern Saxony, right on the border with the Czech Republic and Poland. They are part of the Lusatian Mountains and the Western Sudetes, known for their striking sandstone formations, rock towns, and extensive forests. The highest peak is Lausche (793 m above sea level) on the German-Czech border, a popular destination for hikers and cyclists. The region offers numerous viewpoints with panoramas over the surrounding mountains and the tri-border area. Key attractions include the rock formations in Oybin and Jonsdorf, as well as a historic narrow-gauge railway that gives the area a unique, retro atmosphere. With well-marked, gentle trails, the Zittau Mountains are ideal for family outings, peaceful hikes, and exploring lesser-known corners of the Polish-Czech-German borderland. It is a perfect destination for a full-day trip, combining nature with a touch of history and local charm.
