Jaskinia Smocza Jama Dolina Kościeliska

Jaskinia Smocza Jama is a short, steep karst cave located in Kraków Gorge (Wąwóz Kraków), a side branch of the Kościeliska Valley in the Western Tatra Mountains. It lies within the Tatra National Park near the village of Kościelisko. Its name refers to the Smocza Jama in Kraków and the legend of the Wawel Dragon, though the cave itself is a natural tunnel through the rock. It is about 37 meters long, cutting through the Ratusz Rock, with two entrances – lower and upper – and a height difference of around 12–17 meters. The passage is narrow and steep, equipped with chains and ladders, and the floor is covered with humus remains. Due to constant air flow, the temperature stays at 6–8°C, so bring a warmer layer and a headlamp or flashlight. The cave is part of a yellow hiking trail that loops through the picturesque Kraków Gorge. Most visitors start from Kiry, following the green trail to Polana Pisana (about 40–60 minutes), then take the yellow trail into the gorge. The entire loop through the gorge and cave takes roughly 50–60 minutes and can be done without a guide. It is suitable for families with kids, couples, school trips, and anyone seeking unforgettable Tatra views.
