Church of St. Apostles Peter and Paul

The Church of St. Apostles Peter and Paul is a Baroque parish church built between 1708 and 1730, considered one of the gems of the Duszniki-Zdrój old town. Inside, visitors can admire an original pulpit shaped like a whale, an 18th-century chapel of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, and a stone baptismal font from 1560, which is the only surviving element from the older church. The main altar from the 18th century and a monument to John of Nepomuk are also noteworthy. In front of the church stands a monument to Pope John Paul II, and around the building there are historic tombstones from the former church cemetery, including the epitaph plate of Georg Zwiner von Hutberg and 19th-century graves of Polish health resort visitors, such as the obelisk of Lt. Col. Teofil Stamirowski and Lt. Col. Ludwik Wiktor Kijański. The church's history dates back to the 14th century, when a parish existed in Duszniki and belonged to the Diocese of Prague. The current Baroque structure was erected after fires and destruction of earlier churches, with the design by architect Lorenz Meyser from Kłodzko. The church underwent numerous renovations, especially after the great fire of the town in 1844, which damaged the roofs and tower. After World War II, the church was handed over to a Polish priest. The site is wheelchair accessible and has toilets, making it friendly for families with children and all visitors. It is a place with rich history and unique religious art, worth visiting during a stay in Duszniki-Zdrój.
