Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Duszniki-Zdrój is a Neo-Gothic temple that was opened in 1902. Construction began in 1899, and the decision to build it was made two years earlier. The church belongs to the Franciscan parish, whose monastery is located right next to it. It is situated on a terrace on a mountain slope, with stone stairs leading up from Wojska Polskiego Street. The interior retains its original furnishings, and in the presbytery visitors should notice a beautiful old stained-glass window related to the church's dedication. On 10 May 1945, the church was damaged by war activities – a Latvian cavalry unit stationed in the Franciscan monastery, fleeing towards Czechoslovakia, detonated ammunition in the walking hall. The explosion destroyed, among other things, the tower and windows with stained glass, but the damage was repaired within a year. To this day, the repairs can be recognized by the different color of the bricks. This is a place with a rich history, interesting for both lovers of sacral architecture and those interested in the region's past.
